I Heart Rice Krispie Treats

pop.JPGLooking for a quick, fun, and charming gift for your kids to make for someone they love?  What about Rice Krispie Treat pops? They are so easy, but can look like a fancy dessert.

What you need –
1 completed recipe of Rice Krispie Treats
Popsicle sticks
Red Melting Chocolates
Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Using the cookie cutter, cut out as many hearts as you can.  (You will have left over treats that you can shape into hearts…. or eat. ) Insert the popsicle stick. Place the melts in a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave the melts according to the package instructions.  Dip the pops in the chocolate, tapping off the excess chocolate. Place on a lined cookie sheet (parchment or foil works well) and allow to dry. I placed the pan in the refrigerator for a while to speed up the process.

Post Pop Reflections - (1) Store bought treats can work, but they are small and may be a bit difficult to maneuver with a tiny cutter. (2) You may want to either dust your cutters with cornstarch or spray lightly with cooking spray to help deal with the stickiness of the marshmallow.

[…] I had some fun with marshmallow treats this past winter, making them into lollipops for Valentine’s Day. Now, as Easter hops closer, I went a different direction.  Baking a batch of marshmallow treats in a shallow pan, I used the large Wilton Grip Cutter to create the holiday shapes I wanted.  Then, I decorated my treats with candy melts.  They came out cute and were gobbled up quick at work.  I am thinking, though, that I will try royal icing next time.
