Shamu’s Kids Meal
Mama’s Kitchen Healthy Alternatives at SeaWorld Orlando was a pleasant healthy surprise during a recent visit. I had planned on making do or just ignoring some mom guilt when the kids ate junk food theme park meals. When I saw a funky green and white sign declaring this restaurant was the “healthy alternative,” I made a bee-line.
Even though it was cafeteria style, it was certainly healthier than I expected to find at a theme park. I got a turkey sandwich on multi-grain bread with whole wheat pasta salad.
The children’s meal, called Shamu’s Kids Meal, was also better than I anticipated. I just had to get over the $6.99 per meal price tag, and the $50 tab for two adults and three children to eat what was basically healthy fast food. I looked at it this way, however: I would have spent the same on an unhealthy theme park lunch, too.
The children’s meal came in a cute Shamu lunch box that you can save and reuse back home. It include a turkey hot dog, sweet potato chips, raisins, and the choice of milk, apple juice, orange juice, or bottled water.
Mama’s Kitchen doesn’t use preservatives or cook with trans fats. The menu features various salads, as well as a vegetarian chili and vegetarian sandwich. It was refreshing to see a theme park embrace healthy alternatives for dining instead of simply serving up chicken nuggets and burgers.

Even though I have teens - they would “totally” love the lunch box (it’s “like” art)! The $6.99 price tag isn’t bad if that lunch box is really reusable.
