Tasty Tidbits - Culinary Concept Receives Grant
Embracing a philosophy to make the world a better place, Lizzie Marie (8 years old) created the Tasty Tidbits project, which won the “Del Monte Do Something Good for You! Grant” presented by the Do Something foundation recently. Lizzie’s goal is to teach children and adults how to have a delicious time living healthy while creating healthier communities and reducing obesity levels by hosting classes in hospitals, school and homeschool groups, scout troops, and other community venues. Do Something (www.dosomething.org) encourages young people to create projects that will improve their communities.
We learned about Do Something when Lizzie attended the Taste of Atlanta event with her first press credentials in October 2007. In addition to filming her online cooking shows, Lizzie enjoys interviewing local chefs, farmers, and other food professionals who have a direct influence on food in our community. During Taste of Atlanta, Lizzie had a chance to meet and chat with Chef Rocco DiSpirito of New York City. Chef Rocco participates in various Do Something projects. It was at that point Lizzie decided she wanted to make a positive impact on our community and apply for the grant with her Tasty Tidbits: Educating Today for a Healthier Tomorrow.
The Tasty Tidbits Cooking Class is a peer-to-peer concept where Lizzie leads the cooking lessons (she’s been cooking since she was 2) while I teach the importance of using fresh, healthy ingredients. The focus of Lizzie Marie Cuisine is using fresh and healthy ingredients.
