Having a Fruit Party
This afternoon, my daughter had a wonderful idea. “We should have a fruit party, mom!” Indeed, we should!
I’d love to think the years of pro-fresh-produce brainwashing from me are finally paying off, but I think she actually got the idea from daycare on Friday. There was a birthday party for the woman who runs the place. I think fruit was served, and she mingled the idea of fruit and party into one concept. But what a cool concept!
Not being entirely sure what a fruit party is, I decided to make a guess. I chopped up various fruits on hand: a banana, honeydew melon, and strawberries. Each went onto a fun children’s plate, one of Dora, one of Superman, and one in the shape of a grasshopper.
Being that this is a party, I decided to give the fruit a little bling by adding a squirt of chocolate whipped cream. It’s only 15 calories per serving anyway, and made for a fun dip.
Then, the party commenced. The bananas were the first to go and, interestingly, the strawberries with chocolate dip were the last (and that was with a little assistance from me!). But within mere minutes, our fruit party was out of fruit and I needed to chop more. I can rarely think of a time all three kids so eagerly gobbled down healthy fresh produce.
Afterwards, my daughter made another suggestion that almost brought a tear to this foodie-mom’s eyes: “We should have a veggie party tomorrow!” Oh, yes! We should!
