Spider Cookies from High Five Magazine
My first thought when my mother-in-law bought my daughter a subscription to High Five Magazine (for 2-6 year-olds and published by Highlights) was that I had serious doubts my daughter would read an entire magazine.
First of all, she doesn’t read yet. Second of all, she has the attention span one might expect from a 4-year-old.
I was so wrong. She gets excited each time the magazine arrives, and she devours it front to back eagerly (and repeatedly). The one thing I love about the magazine is the included recipes for kids. We have enjoyed a few of the preschooler-friendly recipes, and we regularly make the rainbow toast recommended in an earlier edition. That basically consists of painting bread with food coloring, then toasting.
The October issue just arrived with yet another fun and creative recipe for preschoolers.
Spider Cookies Recipe
- Chocolate wafer cookies
- Golden raisins
- Thin pretzel sticks
- Peanut butter or cream cheese
- Spread two cookies with peanut butter or cream cheese. (I think it would be fun to do cream cheese for one side, peanut butter for the other).
- Place 8 pretzel “legs” on one cookie.
- Top the cookie with the other wafer.
- Use peanut butter or cream cheese to glue on 2 raisin eyes.
Easy, fun and delicious! The nice thing about the recipes in the magazine is that they have very visual instructions, with a picture of every step. This makes it really easy for a preschooler to follow the instructions.
