Children Culinary Schools
Last month I wrote about culinary summer camps for kids. Now I’ve learned about two culinary schools for youngsters. One is called Young Chefs Academy and the other is Batter Up Kids Culinary Center.
Batter Up Kids says it has built its business on the commitment of teaching children’s cooking and nutrition classes in a safe, positive learning environment. The school’s programming offers a diverse and unique assortment of cooking classes for children from 2½-year-olds to teens. The classes vary continuously, as this option allows children to take advantage of learning the newest culinary trends while keeping the traditional values of cooking incorporated into all of its programming. The school offers 4-week culinary sessions or individual classes. In addition to the regular culinary sessions, the school offers Story Time Cooking, which are classes designed for an adult and child cooking team; After School Culinary Programs, which are designed for school age children only; Special Needs Children Culinary Programs; and many more programs.
Young Chefs Academy (YCA) says it teaches children the importance and value of cooking in a safe setting that encourages discovery and creativity. YCA’s classes are designed to familiarize children ages 3 and older with diverse foods while they experience what it feels like to create and taste scrumptious recipes themselves. Young chefs will learn basics in kitchen safety, proper food handling, food preparation, cooking and baking techniques, presentation, table setting, and manners.
YCA also offers Camp Can-I-Cook, which happens each summer, with three-day sessions each week to tempt kids into learning cooking techniques along with sampling of a variety of cuisines. With three days devoted to each theme, children experience new tastes and learn to prepare some basic recipes, from Italy to the America, cake decorating to homemade fudgsicles. Some of the past themes included: All-American Cuisine, Campout Cooking, Tour de France, and Summer Treats to Beat the Heat.
If your child is serious about cooking, these are two good ways to test the water and really gauge their interest. Check out the website of each school to see if one is in your area. Both of these culinary schools are available for franchise opportunities, too.

Hi,my name is Jahnae Hatley, I am 13 years old & love to cook. I love to cook for my family any time that I could , but I feel that I can use a lot more help and guidance towards cooking because in the future I want to be a professional chef, a forensic scientist, a runway model, and a fashion clothing designer. I choose to make all the above my priority and career because I know that I have the potential and confidence to pursue each and everyone no matter how long it takes. And here is where I want to learn about the basic of cooking.
