Who Let The Bugs In?

Cakelet PanCupcakes are no longer the in thing when it comes to summer entertaining.  Instead, consider the cakelet, a pint sized portion of cake molded into different shapes and fun forms.  Specifically, check out this fun Backyard Bugs Cakelet Pan at Williams-Sonoma.  Featuring bees, dragonflies, ladybugs and butterflies, the cakelet pan makes eight cakes at a time.  These cakelets are perfect for your child’s summer birthday party, or as an accent to a backyard barbecue.  For a birthday party, you can give children the cakelets unadorned and allow them to decorate their own cake with frosting and sprinkles — a craft activity that they can eat when they are finished.  I suspect that even the adults at your party won’t be able to resist the novelty of biting into a sweet and deliciously decorated dragonfly.

Erika, these are absolutely adorable! Even cooler than the train cake I wrote about a few months ago… now I just need to find some excuse to buy one!

So cute!

Very cool!

They look very cool. In practice the cake does not come out of the pan well. Most bugs fracture and are unusable even when closely following the directions that come with the pan.

I’m sorry you had problems getting the cakes out of the pan, ptc. While I have not used this exact pan, I have used others like it. I’ve never had a problem getting the small cakes out when I use a heavy coat of a baking spray with flour in it- such as Baker’s Joy or Pam for Baking. They work beautifully and I highly recommend them.
