Chill Out with Fruit Chillers

fruit-chillers.jpgEvery once in awhile, I get lucky with a product that is pretty healthy, but looks like something decadent to our four-year-old son.  Such is the case with Del Monte’s Fruit Chillers.  Made with real fruit and available in mango, strawberry and raspberry flavors, they are fat-free and each serving provides 100% of the daily recommended allowance of Vitamin C (a whopping 150% for the mango flavor!).  Sold non-chilled, when you get home, just pop them in your freezer, and in a few hours time, your little one will be eating a healthy sorbet that they call “dessert.”

I’ve seen them available at Costco and regular grocery stores, as well as Target and Wal-Mart.  Sells for about $2.59/4 pack.

These are healthier than most store bought treats but they’re still a little junky. I couldn’t find nutritional info about them on Del Monte’s web site but I found it on supermarketsavvy.com. They point out that with the added sugar there is about 5 teaspoons of sugar per serving. Also, the number two ingredient is corn syrup, which is total junk. It’s still better than most stuff you can buy that’s marketed to kids though!

Here’s a recipe my kids love for real fruit smoothies: In a blender, blend a bunch of frozen fruit (strawberries are favorites, as is pineapple) with enough water to make a thick slushie. Add a heaping teaspoon or two of a favorite 100% juice concentrate for added flavor and natural sweetness.

Thanks for the neat site!

I love fruit chillers they are very refreshing after a hard day at schoo have told all of my friends about them and we love eating them. I was wondering what stores carry them? What flavors do you have? Thank you for this wonderful treat.

Love Emily

Hi Emily! I’ve seen them at a local grocery store and at Costco. At the grocery store, you can usually find them in the canned fruit aisle.
