When my boys were toddlers, I kept a small bag of toys, crayons, and books in my car. We'd tote this little bag of fun into restaurants to keep them occupied during our visit.

Best dining out tip: talk to your children BEFORE you go out - treat the event like a school field trip. Let them know what to expect (menu, rhythm of the meal) and what YOU and other diners expect (crawling under tables, shouting, throwing, pointing are all disturbing to others). Preparation is key!
