Fruit with a kick!

Everyone knows that kids (and grownups) are supposed to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, but sometimes this can be a drag. Fruit is sweet and usually juicy, but sometimes the appeal of candy is too hard to resist.

What if there were something that seemed halfway between fruit and candy?

When I was a kid, I loved Pop Rocks. They were sweet and powerfully flavored, and best of all, they popped in your mouth. The special effects just made the candy crystals taste better.

That popping feeling does just belong to Pop Rocks and sodas anymore. An Oregon company has released Fizzy Fruit, real grapes and pieces of pineapple that have been carbonated. The company has developed a process to carbonate the water naturally found in the fruit. Other than the tingly sensation, there’s no difference between Fizzy Fruit and fruit straight off the tree — no added sugar or preservatives.

These sweet treats are popping up in grocery stores and Wal-Marts throughout the South, and it’s likely they will head nationwide soon. I haven’t been able to find any at my local stores, but stay tuned for a review — I can’t wait to try them!

Have any of you tasted these?
