Lots of kids food in store
Can you envision a grocery store/restaurant designed especially for kids? Matt Cohen has!
Cohen has created a one-of-a-kind retail store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Kidfresh. He was inspired to help busy parents select meals that are healthy and well-balanced. While there are lots of prepared foods available for adults, most do not meet kids’ tastes or nutritional needs.
Kidfresh is a brightly colored and cheerful building with Grab & Go meal packs as well as the option to create your own mix. Kids can also order at a smoothie and sandwich bar.
I was particularly impressed with Kidfresh’s way of classifying food by age group. Food for toddlers is easy to pick up, while food for the 6 to 10 set is fun, but more like “grown-up” meals.
According to the New York Times, “The store has a special doorway and mini shopping carts, just for children. There is a kitchen on the premises where the food is prepared using preservative-free and, whenever possible, organic ingredients.”
Finally, if you happen to be lucky enough to live near the store, they’ll deliver.
Not in New York? The web site says that they will have online shopping up and running sometime soon. In the meantime, check out their nutrition tips, food games, and recipes!
