Last Minute Gift Ideas — Think Asian!
I can’t be the only one who hasn’t quite finished up my holiday shopping. I’m always searching for stocking stuffers until the last minute. For those of you in the same boat, I have some great food-related kids gifts that might round out your shopping.
Chopsticks are great, especially when eating out at Asian restaurants, but they can be hard for little hands to use. Trying to figure out where to put your thumb or how to keep the sticks apart can be tricky, and picking up small pieces of veggies or scooping up rice can challenge the most skilled adult.
These products can help get kids interested in using chopsticks. Try them out with your family!
Perpetual Kid has these great toppers for regular chopsticks. Choose a boy or a kids Chopstick Kid and put the chopsticks on their legs. The squishy toppers keep the sticks apart so kids just have to pinch them closed.
If you’d rather your kids have their own special chopsticks, Hogwild Toys has very cute animal themed beginner chopsticks. These sticks come prejoined at the top with a variety of animals. You can choose from farm animals, sea creatures, or zoo animals. There’s still time to order them before Christmas.
Now, what will you eat with these new chopsticks? Sushi is healthy, low fat, and not too complicated to make. I wish I’d had one of these sushi play sets when I was growing up — it looks like a blast! The wooden sushi roll pieces stick together with velcro until you use the knife to separate them. And I love the little details of wasabi and ginger.
But maybe raw fish and rice just aren’t going to fly with your kids. This whimsical dessert will still give them a chance to pick up the sticks! These mock sushi rolls are made with a thin layer of Rice Krispy Treats, gummy bears or worms for the filling, and fruit leather or fruit roll-ups in place of seaweed.

The chopsticks are so cute! I especially like the toppers. I’m not so good with chopsticks myself and would even consider having a set for myself.
